Capt. William Alford Gregg, IV, USN (Ret), 79, beloved husband of Joni Gregg of Keowee Key, Salem, S.C., went to be with his Lord Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born May 19, 1928, in Piqua, Ohio, Mr. Gregg was the son of the late William Alford, III and Eloise Thornburg Gregg. He was educated at Walnut Hills High School, University of Cincinnati, and Xavier University, all of Ohio. He served as an aviator in the U.S. Navy, where he reached the rank of Captain. This fulfilled his passion for flying that lasted a lifetime. He was VP of R&D of Precision Valve Corp. in Yonkers, N.Y. He relocated his office to Travelers Rest, S.C., in 1991, where he worked until retirement in December 2006. He served his Lord as an Elder of Evangelism in the Presbyterian Church, served on several Kairos teams at McCormick Prison, and was CEO of Keowee Cares of Keowee Key. He was treasurer of Foothills Pregnancy Care Center, and was an active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca.

In addition to his wife of thirty-six years, Mr. Gregg is survived by sons, John Gregg and wife, Lora, of Bethesda, Md., William Gregg and wife, Mary Margaret, of Atlanta, Ga. and Mark Bardo and wife, Mary Beth, of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Leslie Gregg Jolly and husband, James, of Grinnell, Iowa, and Malia Read and husband, Mark, of Atlanta, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gregg was predeceased by brother, Lewis Gregg.

A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2 p,.m. Tuesday, March, 25, 2008, at Seneca Presbyterian Church.
