RAYMOND EUGENE LOUX
CPT, USN (RET)
1928 - 2010Captain Raymond Eugene Loux, USN (Ret), of Pensacola, FL, passed peacefully into eternal life on June 3, 2010. Ray was born in Upper Darby, PA on August 17, 1928.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Loretta Loux; sister, Mary Lou Wilson; daughter, Marie; and son-in-law, William B. Blackmon, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Belardinelli Loux, of 57 years, and his children, Jacalyn Loux Blackmon, Pensacola; sons, Christopher R. Loux of Pensacola and Jonathan W. (Ana) Loux of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his beloved grandson, Michael C. (Julie) Loux of Birmingham, AL; Jeremy and Rebecca Loux of St. Louis, MO and CJ Russ of Vermont.
Ray entered the Navy in 1946 under the Holloway Program and attended LaSalle College. He entered flight training in 1948. Through the Aviation Midshipman Program, he was designated a Naval Aviator in July 1950 and was commissioned as an Ensign in August 1950. Ray flew F9F Panthers with VF-52 for two tours during the Korean War. In 1957 he received his BA from Penn State University. In 1960, he reported to VF-101 Detachment A, NAS Oceana, flying F4D Skyray aircraft. In 1964-1967, he was Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of VF-102. He was Commanding Officer of Carrier Air Wing One from 1970-1971. Captain Loux had in excess of 4940 flight hours in a carrier type aircraft and was the 8th aviator in naval history to surpass the 1,000 carrier arrested landing mark. He received orders to COMCARDIV Staff, Norfolk, VA in 1971. He was Commanding Officer of Naval Aviation Schools Command, NAS Pensacola from 1972 to 1975. He retired as Inspector General, U. S. Naval Forces Europe, London, England in 1976.
Ray received the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (7 awards), Navy Commendation (Combat V), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
Ray served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Red Ribbon Charitable Foundation, Inc., a local non-profit organization, funding both HIV prevention education and humanitarian relief for persons living with and affected by HIV.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Pat Foley at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 140 West Government Street, Pensacola, with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery following the Mass.
