A little history lesson (provided by Frank Bonansinga)

Something to read this Sunday or Monday for those ahead of us, if you have a few minutes to spare to hear about Leo.  You likely know most of this but I have added a little extra info that should be interesting.  fcb

Leo was born in 1452 and became a local whiz kid and second to none. But he  had trouble with math in school but made up for it with his intelligence and persistence. He designed things and foretold things like H. G. Wells, In Things to Come. He was some piece of work, as the kids say now.

Leo was like Romanian Henri M. Coanda who at 24 became a professional test pilot, soloed and flew the world's first jet powered aeroplane at a Paris airshow in 1912.

It was Henri's first and last flight but he was the first, not a Brit or a German to build and fly a jet though be it for a short flight.

Gustave Eiffel, a French engineer and tower builder of note, knew Coanda and said Henri was born much too soon. Eiffel said Coanda was in the class with his friends Tom Edison, the Wright brothers and Alex G. Bell. And Gustave included Leo too.

Leo was a genius and came up with:
An adjustable drawing compass
A clock that measured minutes and hours
A scale that made it easier to read weights
An Odometer for wagons, measuring distance travel
A  Pedometer, measuring distance walked
A inclinometer measuring tilt
A Hygrometer to measure humidity
An Anemometer measuring wind speed
A device measuring how much water expanded turning into steam
Leo predicted aeroplanes and radio waves, telephone and many things that happened years later.

And Leo liked to draw and paint but once got into trouble with the church for his risky paintings of the human body. But nothing stopped Leo except death.

His painting showing a woman's facial expression is described as enigmatic.
