The winter of 1947-48, there was a pool of Midshipmen who had graduated from Preflight awaiting their SNJ instructors at Corry Field.
A small group decided to join the Pensacola base basketball league and asked the guiding Marines to sponsor their Mishipman team. They were refused, so bought some inexpensive (cheap) uniforms and called themselves the:

Back Row L - R: Bill Clark, Harry Dodd, Stan Van Lier, Frank Bonansinga and Jerry Walterskirchen. Holding the ball, Bill Dobson. Missing: Norm DeBay and Wm Bud Barry. (Stan and Frank were in 12-47 but the other's preflight classes are unknown).
They had no coach, no plays but could run forever and shot pretty good too! The team won the whole thing and took turns with the three trophies in their rooms. But soon after, the trophies were confiscated as such items were not permitted in Midshipmen rooms.
The trophies are very probably still in the Marine's Preflight office at Pensacola.
